GR MUSEUM FIRE HOUSE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED ……

Volunteers commit to one 3 hr period per week  I think every two weeks might be OK, but every week is certainly much preferred.  You get to sit in our space and talk to folks from all over the world.  Lot of different languages are heard, but usually those who can’t understand English have someone with them who can.  Usually committed hours are either 9:30AM to 12:30, or 12:30 to  3:30PM.

Contact person may be David Teisma  or the GR Museum Volunteer Coordinator, Joyce Makinen.  Joyce is the one who schedules everything and is the coordinator so she’s in charge, she is very nice and easy to work with.

David is there on Thursdays.

Need to know any more information contact David T.

Free parking and staff reduced prices at the cafeteria when you are on duty.

*****Below is an excerpt from the Pension Boards 2017 Winter Newsletter …..

We are pleased to announce that there will be a 13th Check Pension Supplement issued to eligible retirees and beneficiaries on January 31, 2018. The 13th Check is issued annually, if funds are available, by the City of Grand Rapids Police & Fire Retirement System to eligible retirees and beneficiaries. This check, a negotiated part of your retirement benefit, can only occur when the average annual market value rates of return for the investment of retirement system assets have experienced sufficient gains during the last five years to allow for the distribution of excess reserve funds. The five-year average market value rate of return was 8.67% for the Police & Fire Retirement System. Although it is our hope that a distribution will always occur, the economy, volatility of financial markets, and other considerations may not make it possible to do so every year. Any direct deposit and tax withholding arrangements previously made by the retiree for regular monthly benefit payments will also apply to this 13th Check payment. Please note that each recipient’s amount is different and for privacy reasons the Retirement Systems Office cannot provide check amounts prior to the distribution.

Lastly, we would like to take this time to thank the Building Corporation for all they have done in the past and present in assisting those retirees who have needed it.

The endeavor and vision from our past mentors and peers have been so instrumental in our quality of life that they could never be thanked enough, you know who you are and we thank you for your vision in looking out for our futures.

WELCOME 2018  and CONGRATULATIONS to NEW RETIREES –
